Today is 1000 days since the arrest of our Foundation volunteer Anton Stashevsky.
Anton was thrown behind bars on July 9, 2021, and for a long time, no specific charges were brought against him. Eventually, they allegedly fabricated "Financing the activities of an extremist group," but ultimately he was convicted under the charge of "Conspiracy to seize power by unconstitutional means."
Anton Stashevsky's guilt lay in his deep empathy for the grievances of others and his indignation at their unfair treatment.
Anton Stashevsky is a good father, a caring husband. He was a rescuer in the search team "Angel," participating in search activities. Helping others was a natural need, Anton believed. In 2020, he continued his volunteer work - assisting victims of repression. Anton Stashevsky was delivering parcels for political prisoners behind bars. In 10 months, the Foundation's volunteers managed to deliver food weighing more than 10 tons.
The regime saw a threat in the solidarity of Belarusians and began to retaliate. After a lengthy investigation, in November 2022, Anton Stashevsky was sentenced to 8 years in a high-security colony. Even behind bars, under intense pressure, he never lost faith in people, inspired his cellmates, and helped them.
Anton Stashevsky is currently imprisoned, but the time will come when he will be free. And he will do it with his head held high, like a person who has always believed in solidarity and assistance, like a true hero.
