Ekaterina Yerusalimskaya: “We need to remind people that the problem has not disappeared”

Ekaterina Yerusalimskaya, the guardian of political prisoners Antonina Konovalova and Sergey Yaroshevich, talks about participating in a joint information company of our Foundation and the Dissidentby.com initiative in support of political prisoners "Until All Are Free" campaign.

"For me, it doesn't matter whose guardian to be because every political prisoner has found themselves in trouble and deserves protection and attention. Moreover, it seems to me that lesser-known Belarusians are deprived of this attention, and guardians don't take care of them. Many will stand up for someone like Kolesnikova, but hardly for an ordinary man from the village.

Political prisoners are now in an impossible situation. They are not receiving parcels, people are detained for writing them letters. Everything is being done to leave political prisoners without support. They want to break them even more so that they regret their choices and actions.

The task of a guardian is to ensure that at least when a political prisoner is released, they feel that they have not been forgotten here. Today Belarusians are getting used to a new reality, and everyone is living their life. More often, they are safe abroad. It is necessary to remind such Belarusians that the problem has not disappeared, that there are those who have not managed to leave, that at least they need to donate for parcels or help their relatives.

I inform my Instagram followers about the couple of political prisoners: I make videos, posts. I plan to organize an exhibition in support of political prisoners".

Ekaterina Yerusalimskaya is a journalist and TV host at Malanka Media and TV3 Plus. She lives in Lithuania.

Antonina Kovovalova is a trusted person of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in the 2020 elections. She was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison.

Sergey Yaroshevich is the husband of Anna Konovalova, one of the administrators of the Telegram channel "Army with the people." He was sentenced to 6 years and three months in prison.

Antonina and Sergey have two children. Due to the threat of persecution by the Lukashenko regime, they fled Belarus together with their grandmother and now live in Poland.
