On April 9th, a 51-year-old inmate, Alexander Kulinich, died in the Brest pre-trial detention center. He was held in custody and accused of insulting Lukashenko. The trial was supposed to take place on April 16th. According to sources cited by the "Zerkalo" publication, the official cause of death was listed as ischemic heart disease. Whether the deceased had access to necessary medication and timely medical assistance is unknown. However, the conditions of detention for political prisoners in prisons and isolation wards are likened to torture.
Alexander Kulinich was a reserve lieutenant colonel. He served in the 38th Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade of the PDI. Recently, he was registered as an individual entrepreneur. According to information from human rights defenders, this is the sixth death of a political prisoner behind bars.
