Siarhei Tikhanousky Turns 46

The political prisoner, politician, and blogger turns 46 today. This is already the fifth birthday that Siarhei Tikhanousky spends behind bars.

He was arrested in 2020, more than two months before the presidential election. He was arrested on a fabricated charge during a provocation at a rally organized by so-called policemen.

Since then, Siarhei has been behind bars, sentenced to a lengthy prison term. He has endured court processes, unjust sentences, solitary confinement, punishment cells, and inhumane conditions of detention. Most importantly, he has not seen his wife Sviatlana and children—Karnej and Agniya—this entire time.

His family has had the hardest time over the past 528 days. The family has had no news of their loved one. He, like some other political prisoners, is being held incommunicado by the prison authorities.

For Siarhei’s relatives, his birthday is filled with sadness, another reminder of stolen and lost time.

We clearly remember how in 2020, we came to the walls of "Valadarka," where Siarhei was held at the time, to show our support. But they transferred Siarhei to Zhodino, and he didn’t hear our congratulations. But the jailers did.

Today, we know for sure that letters don’t reach Siaerhei, but the censors read them. They read them and know that Siarhei and other political prisoners are heroes. So, don’t give up and keep pushing!

Write a letter and send it to Siaerhei’s prison address, and before that—send a photo to the Letter Bank.
