Today became known about the death of 50 year old political prisoner Vadim Khrasko, held in the penal colony "Vitba". According to The Human Rights Center “Viasna”, he died on the night of 8-9 January in the hospital, where he was with pneumonia. On 12 January, the prisoner was buried in Minsk.
Last August, Vadim Khrasko was sentenced to three years in prison for donations. The man had chronic diseases, but the "judge" Sergei Hripach still gave him a real sentence. Vadim Hrasko was ill in prison. Probably, he died because of untimely medical care.
This is the fourth death of political prisoners behind bars. In 2022, activist Vitold Ashurok died in the Shklou colony, probably from beatings. The Investigative Committee did not recognize the criminal nature of the death.
Last year activist and blogger Mikalai Klimovich died in the colony "Vitba". He was disabled due to a cardiovascular disease and spent only two months in prison.
Another victim of Lukashenko's prison system was artist Ales Pushkin. Last July, he was brought from Hrodna prison to the hospital with a prostate ulcer. Ales Pushkin died in intensive care.
"A Country to Live in" Foundation team expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of Vadim Khrasko. We are sure that those who are responsible for the illegal conviction of the political prisoner and his untimely death will be fairly punished.
