Valer Ruselik: “We do not give up”

The caregivers continue to tell about their wards-prisoners within the framework of a joint information campaign of our Foundation and the Dissidentby initiative "Untill All are Free". This time Valer Ruselik talks about Mikola Dziadok.

"I have been friends with Mikola for quite a few years now. Contrary to popular belief, he is not my only friend who is behind bars today, so there's no particular hierarchy or logic in choosing a political prisoner - it's just that at that moment my heart said: Mikola. And that was it.

Of course, with each passing day, staying in touch with political prisoners becomes increasingly difficult. The times when you could easily send them mail, letters, parcels, and immediately get feedback seem like a fantasy today. We all know very well about the maximum isolation of political prisoners from the outside world and the pressure on their families.

Nevertheless, caring for political prisoners is still very important because information about our solidarity with them still reaches them from time to time - this support, the scale of which cannot be overestimated. It's also support for the families of political prisoners who essentially are hostages of Lukashenko's regime today. Our solidarity is also a demonstration to the regime that we haven't surrendered and that we stand by each other. And it's also a reminder to all of us that nothing is over. It's a call to remain vigilant in the face of current Belarusian realities and the fates of people who tirelessly continue to challenge the regime.

Therefore, I urge everyone to join the initiative "Untill All are Free" and also to show solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners beyond this initiative.

My support consists of media coverage of the topic of Belarusian political prisoners, exemplified by my friend Mikola Dziadok. Primarily, this involves publications on social networks, as well as mentions in other media outlets. Unfortunately, many of my media projects and social networks have been got the status of extremist organizations. So that forced me to reconsider new formats of support due to security concerns for Mikola's loved ones who remain in Belarus."

Mikola Dziadok is a blogger, activist of the anarchist movement. He was detained on November 11, 2020, under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. He was severely beaten upon detention. A confession video was published by the authorities in various Telegram channels. During his time in custody at PK-9, he was subjected to numerous abuses, for which he was transferred to a punitive regime in Turma-1, Grodno.

Valer Ruselik is a media activist, journalist, blogger, and author of the YouTube channel "Daroha".
