Maria o Moroz: "May 9 is a sad holiday"

Maria Moroz, head of "A Country to Live in" foundation, spoke about her attitude towards May 9.

“May 9 is a holiday for the Belarusian people. Victory Day over Fascism. But this is a mournful holiday. The war left terrible wounds in every family, was destructive for the entire Belarusian people ...

There were no banners or medals in our family. My great-grandfather died during the war. In our family, there were and are only terrible memories of those terrible years. The death of my great-grandfather, the death of my great-grandmother's children, hunger, and tears. For us, this is a pain for many years. And the understanding that all this happened because of the ambitions of one person and his lust for power.

Who are the people who want to repeat all this? .. On the contrary, we must never, never allow it to happen again.

But today, our country is closer than ever to the most ordinary fascism. It has already arrived. See how similar words of hate are today to those that sounded 80 years ago. And the squads of punitive forces have returned to the streets of Belarusian cities - they mark with paint, beat, rape, kill, just like during that terrible war.

And again, this is due to the rapture of power by one person. He destroys his own people destroys and breaks the lives of people. In his dungeons, truly brutal tortures are happening - and the most blasphemous is that he calls himself a fighter against fascism. However, we heard his praises to Hitler. We have heard that "the German order has been forming for centuries, under Hitler this formation reached its highest point," we heard that "dictatorship is our brand." We have heard and seen a lot.

We, Belarusians, must definitely stop this. Or our children will have to go through what our grandfathers and great-grandfathers had to go through, what we all experienced and continue to experience over the past year. "
